JAMES HAYES

Mr Justice Wainwright

James trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

 

He began his career with Sir Laurence Olivier's National Theatre Company at the Old Vic in 1964 and over six decades has appeared in over fifty productions with the National at the Old Vic and on the South Bank. These include As You Like It, Macbeth, The Rules Of The Game, The Front Page, The Misanthrope, The Fawn, The Life Of Galileo, The Romans In Britain, Amadeus, A View From The Bridge, The Oresteia, The Relapse, Othello, St Joan, The Captain Of Kopenick and Liola. With the Royal Shakespeare Company he has appeared in numerous productions including The Tempest, The Venetian Twins, A New Way To Please You, Measure For Measure, Richard III, Sejanus, Julius Caesar and Written On The Heart. At the Donmar Warehouse he has appeared in The Man Who Had All The Luck and Philadelphia Here I Come. At the Abbey Theatre, Dublin he appeared in An Ideal Husband, Hinterland and The Plough And The Stars. At Shakespeare's Globe in Hamlet, The Antipodes and Anthony And Cleopatra. At Opera North he was in Kiss Me Kate. He has written and performed in two one-man plays A Horde Of Unemployed Ventriloquists and Russell Of The Times at the National Theatre. He was in Trevor Nunn's production of Beckett's All That Fall at the Jermyn St Theatre, in the West End and the 59E59 Theatre in New York.

 

His theatrical memoir Shouting In The Evenings was published in 2016.
